ENROLLMENT IS CLOSING JANUARY 13!
It’s not too late to take action towards your dreams for your art. Maybe you’ve been going around in circles, taking classes and wishing you could figure out how they do it. How do artists make a living? Is there a secret formula?
Paying the bills while growing as an artist… it’s not just a dream. How would you feel if you had a job that fits your personality as well as helps you to develop your style as an artist? Have you purchased many online courses and lack the accountability to finish them? Do you struggle with developing your own style or even just finding the time in your busy life to practice your art?
If you are ready to commit to making your dream a reality, the Artful Career Academy is the perfect place for you whether you are at the beginning of your artistic journey or have already made some sales. The Artful Career Academy is a 6-month, online, professional development program for artists which will set you up with a clear creative path to a real career! You’ll use the coursework you’ve already purchased to satisfy the program requirements. Your development plan will single out the courses that will help you reach your goals and show you what skills you still need to learn.
The Artful Career Academy is about accountability and support. You will transform from dreamer to knowing what truly makes you happy and you’ll be ready to start a real job with a steady income and space in your life to make art. The program is six months long but you will have lifetime access to the materials, trainings and community.
The Artful Career Academy Mission: * We learn at our own pace, from anywhere in the world. * The world needs art! Through accountability and community, we help each other rise and make a difference in our world. * Each artist is unique and has something meaningful to express.
The Artful Career Academy is a framework to help you develop your professional skills and choose your career path. We focus on accountability and support. The program does not include your coursework (which you most likely already purchased). In a school-like setting, we will all work together through six pillars including:
* Art Practice * Art Theory * Art in the Global Economy * The Business of Art * Being Visible * Graduation Project You’ll also have access to trainings and guest experts in the web portal and we will meet virtually for each of the six pillars. There will be times when you will work with a study group and present to other students. You will receive personal support so that you make progress toward your goal. But we understand that life happens! So you will have access to everything for the entire year!
There are a limited number of spots available in this pilot. So if this program is calling to you, apply now!
The next session will be in July 2018! Can you wait that long to start seeing results?
I’m so incredibly excited to launch the Artful Career Academy! With ten years experience advising PhD students and more than 20 years writing and making art, I know first-hand how amazing and yet isolating it can be to develop your personal style while learning your craft.
*Art Career Bestie!* By wearing the hats of mentor, therapist, productivity guru, planner, cheerleader, and accountability partner I basically become the spotlight on your creative path as well as an objective voice. I’ll remind you to laugh and play, and I’ll point you toward the goals you’ve set.
Can the Artful Career Academy really help you find your "soul's work?" Let me tell you, I was you! I struggled for years with crippling self-doubt and just dabbling in anything and everything art-related. I never felt like I finished things. When friends praised my art, I just thought “if they only knew.” It took years to be able to use the title Artist. Even then, I despaired of ever doing something with my art. And when it came down to it, I didn’t like spending every day in the studio working on art. I didn’t feel that it was my soul’s work, not my passion!
While I was learning and growing as an artist, I was working and it was during a professional development program that I learned about the field of coaching and everything clicked into place! My core values are lifelong learning, connecting, and creativity. I am happiest when I’m advising students or figuring out systems and making processes better or connecting with other artists. I’m in my zone when I help someone reach their goals! So the Artful Career Academy is my soul’s work and I believe I am uniquely able to help other struggling artists to discover and claim their own path. I’m also a single mom and I know that family comes first, so I understand how difficult it is to work on your art full-time or go back to traditional school. I believe that I can help you reach your goals through the Artful Career Academy.
Kristina is a delightful and energetic young lady. I feel very fortunate to have had her as my life coach. Before I met her, I had signed up to several online art classes, but had fallen behind on my lessons. The lack of motivation to pursue them, is what led me to contact Kristina. She quickly put me back on track, with great ideas, recommendations, and motivation. She helped me get organized and I was able to enjoy my classes in a more productive way. I highly recommend this talented artist!
I love getting emails from Kristina. She gently reminds me of my personal goals while providing practical tips and ways to get them done. I highly recommend Kristina as a coach.

Pillar 1: The Practice of Art
The first pillar is all about getting to know your fellow students, getting clear on goals and having accountability to work on your courses. You’ll explore the concept of how contemporary artists can become apprentices to artists throughout history and set up your systems for success in the academy. As a group, we’ll look at developing our style and narrowing our focus in the practice of making art.
Pillar 2: The Theory of Art
In the second pillar, you’ll continue working on your coursework with an emphasis on art history and examining careers in art. You’ll be focusing on crafting your support network including choosing a mentor.
Pillar 3: Study Abroad- Art in the Global Economy
The third pillar is about getting outside your immediate community and learning about art as part of the global economy. This elective can be satisfied by 1. attending an art retreat in a foreign country or 2. developing your own independent study program by doing a deep dive into another country’s art and culture from the comfort of your own home. As a group, we’ll explore careers in the digital economy and refine our development plans.
Pillar 4: The Business of Art
In this pillar, you’ll narrow in on your career goal and improve your skills at writing, finance, marketing, etc. As a group, we’ll look at business models, the importance of social media in the art community and how to create digital courses.
Pillar 5: Being Visible
We rise by helping each other! This pillar is about connecting with your communities and being of service. You will design and complete a service project and build a mentoring relationship with another artist. As a group, we’ll talk about why it’s important to be visible, and practice dealing with self-doubt and imposter syndrome.
Pillar 6: Graduation Project
Pulling together everything you’ve learned so far, you will complete a graduation project based on your career goal.
Examples: Complete a work of art and write or present to us about the experience. Plan and run an in-person art class or retreat. Intern with a retail shop or other online business. Plan and run a virtual exhibition with art from your fellow students.
Q: I’m a beginner artist. Will this program work for me?
A: Yes! From beginner to advanced artists, this program will be great for you if you need 1. accountability to finish the courses you want to take, and 2. figure out what job or career would be best for you. Either you are wanting to switch careers, or you are interested in bringing in some income while you continue to develop your art style.
Q: How is Artful Career Academy different from other artist professional development programs?
A: The Artful Career Academy is for artists who want to transition into a new career, or re-enter the workforce. You will examine your core values, past work experience, and desires for your future in order to decide what career will bring you the most satisfaction. Our program is unique in that we focus on two things simultaneously: growing as an artist, and figuring out what job is a perfect fit for your skills, passions, and lifestyle.
Q: Why pay for this kind of program? I can just finish my courses on my own.
A: Do you feel like you are learning everything you need to start making money from your art or get a job in the art community? How would you feel, a year from now, if you just kept going the way you are going now? How soon would you like to figure out the ideal career for you so you know what you’re working toward?
In ACA, you will receive lots of support! You’ll have support from me, you’ll have a cohort of students all working toward similar goals, and you’ll have mentors coming in. You’ll have access to new training modules every month so that you can learn new business skills while you are working on your art. You’ll have a personalized development plan so you know exactly what skills you need to reach your goal.
Q: But I don’t have time to do more courses right now.
A: The beauty of the Artful Career Academy is that you use the courses you’ve already purchased to create your development plan! We will evaluate your coursework before the program even starts and work with you on what skills you might be missing in order to reach your goal. No one student’s plan will be the same! Your plan will be unique, just like you are! As you work through the program, we will provide accountability for you to finish your courses. How much money have you spent so far on courses and art supplies? Wouldn’t it be nice to use those things to improve your art and also reach a goal of a new career in art?
Q: Maybe I should do an accredited BFA or MFA program. Artful Career Academy isn’t accredited.
A: If you have the time and money, yes! Do it! There’s something truly special about doing a degree in the arts in person. Degree programs take years and tens of thousands of dollars to complete. For those of us who don’t have these resources, you can do the Artful Career Academy. The cool thing about ACA is that you can do this program from anywhere in the world- all trainings are virtual and you can take classes online or locally that will satisfy the skills on your development plan. ACA is not an accredited institute of higher education. But, to let you in on a secret we are working on expanding the Academy next year to include a credential and as part of the first cohort of students, you will be grandfathered into the credential program.
Q: If I don’t finish my development plan/requirements by June, what happens?
A: Though the trainings will all be completed over a six-month period, you will have lifetime access to the materials including any new trainings that are added in the future!
Q: How much time will I need to spend per week for this program?
A: If you plan to finish within the 6-month session, I suggest spending 2 hours per week. One hour on coursework, and one hour on your art. It will be different for everyone because it depends on how much coursework you have already completed. For students who have a lot of completed courses, they will move through the program easily with <2 hours of time spent on the Academy per week. If you only have a few completed courses, you may need to spend some time on the weekend.
Please note that this program does not have a set end-date! Graduating into the alumni network is available to you as soon as you complete your development plan. Even spending 1 hour per week, you will make significant personal progress towards your career goals. Don't forget! You have lifetime access to all program materials!
Q: Are you really going to be able to help me find my “soul’s work?"
A I was you! I struggled for years with crippling self-doubt and just dabbling in anything and everything art-related. I never felt like I finished things. When friends praised my art, I just thought “if they only knew.” It took years to be able to use the title Artist. Even then, I despaired of ever doing something with my art. So the Artful Career Academy is my soul’s work and I believe I am uniquely able to help other struggling artists to discover and claim their own path. I’m also a single mom and I know that family comes first, so most likely you also have some responsibilities that are keeping you from working on your art full-time or going back to traditional school. So, yes! I believe that I can help you reach your goals through the Artful Career Academy.
